Christmas Rendered 2021 | Kitchen Reveal | The Grinch

Today we are going to talk about the kitchen. I feel as though kitchens are always a mixing bowl of emotions for designers when we create one. It honestly doesn’t matter if it is virtual or reality. If you are a kitchen designer you are probably screaming at me right now. Hear me out… kitchens are what hold the home together. Saying that, even in a virtual space, if you don’t get the layout, materials, and even decor correct the whole design will be thrown off. It can be a lot of pressure. I don’t envy Kitchens designers which is why I never claim to be a professional kitchen designer(even though I have designed a few in my time). However, I will say that I relate to throwing the whole design away and starting over…. only to realize you could have just made a simple change to fix the entire design. Or does that only happen to me? I feel like I’m not the only one.. right? Oh, design woes, but that is not what we are here for, we are here for what came out of the endless hours of throwing away and starting over! The fabulous kitchen!

The Kitchen

The Design Process

After all that back and forth with the design, I am extremely happy with what I am able to present you today. The kitchen has become a beacon of light within the home, which is essentially what the kitchen should be. A place filled with joy and light during the holiday season. Even if you do have a Grinch in your family!

The Grinch has told us even though he was forced to move out of Mount Crumpet, he still wants the textures found within a cave-like atmosphere. Throughout the home, but especially in the kitchen and sitting room area, you’ll see elements that remind one of the natural aspects of mountainous environments. Like I mentioned above it took quite a bit of time to determine my layout and the number of textural aspects I was going to use. What I came up with is a kitchen design that is very simple when it comes to millwork/cabinetry but the materials are what shine on their own. Often in a kitchen, the cabinetry is the focus (or the appliances) naturally because that is where your money is spent. For this kitchen, I wanted the simple lines paired with the various texture to take your eye on a fun journey that shines a light throughout the center of the home. For the walls, we went with wallpaper that mimics Copper stone concrete. I know wallpaper is not a traditional choice for a kitchen but used in a creative way and avoiding splashable areas(like the backsplash) you can accomplish a stunning look. I used wallpaper that is washable, which a highly recommend with this application. A traditional wallpaper would soak in that steam and mildew. For the backsplash, I used a 3/8×4 Brick style Gold Tile. For the countertops, I chose from one of my favorite brands, Cambria, Mammoth Cave, which I believe is not just fitting because of its name, the color and grains throughout the stone are gorgeous pairing with the textures surrounding the home.

Digital Flay Lay

The rendered flat lay for the room helps you get an idea as to how all the finishes will work together within the rendered space.
