It all started on a lazy Sunday morning when I was craving something sweet yet simple to make. With some basic pantry ingredients and a little creativity, these donuts were born.

Homemade Biscuit Dough Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 ½ tbsp baking powder

  • 1 ½ tsp kosher salt

  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar

  • 2 ½ sticks unsalted butter, cut into cubes (very cold)

  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions:

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

  2. Add Butter: Add the cold butter cubes to the dry mixture. Use your hands or a pastry cutter to mix until the butter forms pea-sized crumbs.

  3. Add Buttermilk: Slowly pour in the buttermilk, mixing gently until the dough just comes together. Avoid overmixing.

  4. Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and gently knead until smooth. Your dough is now ready for donuts!

Quick Donuts Using Biscuit Dough

Ingredients:

  • Biscuit dough (see above)

  • 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)

  • Powdered sugar or cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Doughnuts: Roll the biscuit dough slightly and cut into donut shapes using a round cutter (or a glass). Use a smaller cutter (or bottle cap) for the center holes to make donut bites.

  2. Heat the Oil: Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Test readiness by dropping a small piece of dough; it should sizzle immediately.

  3. Fry the Donuts: Carefully fry donuts and holes for 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  4. Add the Topping: While warm, generously sprinkle powdered sugar or cinnamon on the donuts.
