Hello, Y’all! Today we have a very special friend that you all know well, Rachel Beeman, my friend from Rae Elizabeth Design. She has written a magical post that walks you through her top 6 Christmas Traditions. I know you will enjoy your time with Rachel today, she is a sweetheart so open to your homes, and welcome Rachel to the Lauren Ashley Design Blog! I know you’ll find some amazing Holiday tips!

Let’s look back for a second, remember when you were a starry-eyed kid at Christmas? The feeling leading up to that magical day couldn’t be compared, the lights, the presents, the food, and the sheer MAGIC you felt? When you pass that time and grow into a stressed, overworked adult, that magic can fade away. But, I have some amazing and surefire ways to make Christmas magical for your kids and also…for yourself. Let’s dive in and look at what the perfect Christmas Day and 6 magical family traditions can look like. Come on!

Christmas Movies For The Whole Family

Let’s get the easiest one out of the way, shall we? This is a popular one but a fun one. An “oldie but a goodie” shall we say. These days there are a lot of Christmas movies out there that are perfect for the whole family to enjoy. Here is a small list for you and yours to try out this year, and maybe one or two just for you!

  1. The Grinch (2018)
  2. A Christmas Story (1983)
  3. Elf (2003)
  4. Christmas Vacation (1989)
  5. Last Christmas (2019)
  6. Christmas with the Kranks (2004)
  7. 3 Days (2001)
  8. It’s a Wonderful Life (1947)
  9. Crown For Christmas (2015)
  10. Coming Home for Christmas (2017)

Bust Out Your Favorite Christmas Apron

Part of being a kid at Christmas was looking forward to the sweet treats that came along with it. Who can resist, young or old, eating WAY too many Christmas cookies? Not this gal! If you do have kids or if it’s just you, don’t forget to bust out your favorite festive apron and get to baking. These are plenty of Christmas favorites out there that you can try OR get a family member involved for some bonding moments.

Hit the Road For Christmas

It’s easy to get into a dull routine and just bare down for the holidays. But why? Part of making Christmas fun for your family and frankly, yourself, can mean switching some things up. That may mean hitting the road and seeing something new for Christmas. Whether it’s a bigger trip or even something small like going to that quaint little town filled with mom and pop shops. One of my favorite Christmas memory is going to a small town just outside of ours and going on an annual “Christmas Stroll”. All we did was get hot chocolate and roam around these sweet little toy shops just to get out for a change of scenery. And by golly, even as an adult, it sure is magical.

Bedroom Christmas Tree

I’ve talked about hitting the road and all but there ARE things you can do if you decide to stay right at home. Even the smallest things can bring immense joy this season. One thing that brings my kids some holiday magic would be a small Christmas tree of their very own in their bedrooms! You can get a cheap two-foot tiny Christmas tree just for them! Most come pre-lit so they can see that beautiful little tree sparkling at night from their beds. And you know what? Adding one to your bedroom too just might bring some holiday cheer to you too.

Christmas Scavenger Hunt for the Win

Who doesn’t love some fun during the holidays? I know I do! Tap into your inner kid by doing a Christmas scavenger hunt this year with the whole family! Some things to look for could be right in your backyard OR as your run errands or Christmas shop, have your kids or partner check fun, festive things off their lists and see who can get everything first! It’s not only fun for kids but you can make this something fun to do with you and your partner during a date night. Win!

The Christmas Eve Gift

I saved the best for last! For me, Christmas Eve was so thrilling and one reason being that my parents let us open one gift that they picked for us that we could use that night! It was almost like Christmas came early! If you want to make it extra special this year, make a “Christmas Eve Box” for your kids or partner this year. Things you can include could be:

  • Pjs
  • Movies
  • Christmas music
  • Books
  • Festive Socks
  • Ugly Christmas Sweater
  • and so much more!

Use your imagination this year and make it fun not only for your family but for yourself. This year, 2020 has been hard and odd, to say the least, and Christmas IS right around the corner. So let’s pull together and make Christmas fun and cheerful for our families and for ourselves this year.

Thanks for coming along with me as we look at some fun and festive Christmas traditions. I know I’ll be using these this year with my family to brighten up this part of our lives to make great family memories. Because you know what? The best family traditions can make for the perfect Christmas Day.
